Multiple LED Types

Some of the likely ways you will add LED’s to the Morsel. Normally hidden in the model, the components and wiring are all visible.

Connections, starting at the 6:00 position

  • USB power arrives by the blue cable. Continuing clockwise,
  • Extension cables with couplers (2 and 4 pins)
  • Wired LED’s containing resistors
  • Red Laser
  • Bare LED’s connected directly to LED ports
  • Total number of 6.2mm lasers: 1;  5mm LED’s: 6;  3mm LED’s: 2

We can’t list all the wiring possibilities.  For example, the bare LED’s normally use couplers and extension cables.

The LED Ports of the Morsel work the same as the Ditto. Any LED type that is connected to one will light the same on the other.

Add a Light Valve

The Light Valve controls dimming of all LED Ports.  Any length Chaining cable will connect it.

Once connected, it “steals” power from the Morsel because that is where the power is. At the same time, it outputs dimming information to the Morsel through the third pin of the G/5V/CC pin.

Note on orientation: With the board’s connector facing you, G is always the leftmost pin.  We connected the darkest wire of the Chaining Cable to this pin.

Since both boards have a connecter for the USB adapter, either one could receive USB power and the other one will get power through the Chaining Cable.

A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Yes, the Morsel almost blends in to a crowd of Dittos.

The Light Valve at left distributes USB power and adjusts brightness.

By using the Morsel’s File button, we select the “All On” Theme, which provides constant light output.  This means it will look like the Ditto, that is, if we connect only six LED’s and they are the same color as the others.

As with other themes, “All On” will follow the Chained Control input signal which comes from the Light Valve.

The Morsel’s Dim button continues to function.  LED brightness is a product of the button and the setting of the Light Valve and of course whatever the brightness of the theme’s LED Ports are at that time.

As with the Ditto, the G/5V/CC connector allows a virtually unlimited number of boards to be chained together, driving thousands of LED’s if desired.  Extra power distribution may be required.
